Scottish Highland Cows

Highlands are one of the oldest breeds in the world, originating from Scotland as far back as the 6th century. The extremely harsh conditions of the rugged, remote Scottish Highlands created a process of natural selection, where only the fittest and most adaptable animals survived. Highlands come in all different colors red, black, yellow, dun, white, brindle, and silver. Highlands have long horns, shaggy coats, and short legs. They have long outer hair which sheds rain and snow and a soft undercoat of wool to keep them warm. The breed is characterized by traits of hardiness, self-sufficiency, and longevity. They are excellent foragers and efficient at improving pastures and clearing woodlots. There are many advantages to owning Highlands. They calve with ease, have a docile temperament, adapt to all climates, they are a picturesque heritage breed, and are tender, lean, flavorful beef. We do not, nor will we ever, sell "minis" we take pride in our genetics. We would never breed a genetic disorder to market for more money. We are a hobby farm that takes pride in this specific heritage breed.
